Art organizations can be a great source of advice and support for a beginning or accomplished artist. There are many thousands of "organizations" seeking your support. Unfortunately, many are simply an attempt to sell you something or ways to get your name for an email list. For that reason, I would stick to large, established national organizations like the American Water Color Society and to the very local organizations like a local watercolor artist collective or a artist club. The large organizations set the standard in their media for what is "good". Although arbitrary, there is a lot to learn from those individuals who are better at something than you are. On the other hand, the local organizations give you some form of camaraderie and group support; and, are a great source for information about the local or regional art market. I am not saying that there are not a tremendous number museums and other organizations that are great sources of information and support. In fact, there are too many to list. However, for a starting point, I always like the top and the base. You will hear about valuable resources in the middle area soon enough. Following are just a few art organizations that operate on a national, international or highly visible regional level.
